Art school is expensive

My canon t3i finally came in, BUT I have no idea how to use it. I’m also not sure how well it will film with this stock lens, but it will do. I think this will be a good investment since I am an undeclared major and somehow hoping it will help me with my decision. Im beginning to appreciating this project more because it is making me go outside of my comfortable fine arts zone and to explore the land of film. I am ready to fail many times to succeed.

-Shots of potential materials soon to come.

Suggestions

After listening to the advices that everyone gave me, one stood out the most. The split screen idea caught my eyes and I wanted to make my video split screen. On side A, I would have varies of time keeping objects as I listed in the previous post. But this time, I want to show how people interact with these objects. On side B, I would just have the clock ticking and maybe have it tick backwards during the transition?
My second idea is to have side A & B overlap each other. Having side B (clock) be transparent over the devices. And to have a circular frame to make it look like were looking inside of a clock.

After hearing all the suggestions from my classmates, I figured I wanted to use time to tell time and control how long my viewers can engage with it.
To start off, I would have about 5 different ways to keep track of time: smart phone, flip phone, watch, candle clock, and a sunset. Between all of these forms, I would show a brief moment of a clock going backwards. Representing time going backwards to show the progress of time tracking of mankind. The final scene would be a sunset in elapsed time and dim the screen to pitch black.

My inspiration: “Samsung Galaxy Gear: Evolution”

Video

My inspiration came to me not too long ago, when this commercial popped up while I was youtubing.
This promo shows the evolution of futuristic watches from the past. But, looking away from all of their cool features, they all have one simple thing in common. Which is time. Whether it’s digital or analog, they will all show you what time it is.
After watching this video of watch evolution, I wanted make my own version of how we keep time. This may include: the sun, clocks, watches, old school phones and smart phones.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Eater?

Winner, Winner, Chicken Eater?

After a long…….. 7 minutes of thinking, I thought “label/stereotype” would be the best one to do. I’m not quite sure what media to portray this in. Although, I’m leaning towards more on photography. But for the details, I would these three indivduals to hold up a sign of their stereotype. For the race, I would like the sign to say “I am Asian… but I do not eat dogs.” For the sexual orientation, I would like it to say, “I am gay… but I do not have limp wrists.” Finally, for religion, I would like it to say, “I am Christian… but I am not homophobic.”

Then I tried to approach this with more connection between all three of the thumbnail/ideas.
The first set of ideas was with how people just label other individuals to a certain group. Race, sexual orientation, and religion was the three I ended up choosing.
Second set of ideas revolved around time. There has always been 60 seconds a minute, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and so on. The amount of time will never change, but the way we keep it evolved ever so greatly. Sun dial was invented nearly 6000 years ago (My mind is still blown how early on they invented these.) Then more recently we used clocks and watches. Now a days, watches are more of a luxury item and most of us use our cell phones for time.
Lastly, since it is January, a lot of people will have new years resolution. I thought the top three would be to get organized, lose weight, and learn something new everyday. And of course, most of these would be out of our minds within a month, or even a week.

Goal: To Create a collection of characters or objects that are related by color/design/purpose.

Because of the broadness of this project I needed a little push to exercise my creativity. I found a random idea generator website which gave me random words. I tried to make connections in the ones that were given to me.
This was a good starting point but I didn’t think it was kind of hard to connect them together.
